Barcelona/at sea

July 19th, thurs in Barcelona/sea

Here began my first full day on the ship. I started my morning with a training course I’m required to take. These classes start at the beginning of the trip, but seeing as I boarded 6 days or so into the trip, I had to just jump in. Today’s topic was fire training, recognition, and safety. We talk about stuff on the ship to fight fires and got to use an extinguisher. That was fun. The instructor is slightly paranoid though, supposedly piles on clothing catch on fire spontaneously and is frequent enough to cause him concern. Maybe it’s a miracle then I’ve made it through college…or maybe he’s just sort of crazy. After that, I ate lunch, got some practicing in, and the ship left about 4:00 to head for France. I had two short shows that night with a juggler, Pete Matthews, who was great. His show was hilarious and the music, despite its simplicity, was still fun because of the juggling he was doing. I could still just be living in the excitement of this transition, but I really hope that my enthusiasm doesn’t start to dry up. Following that, I hung out with some people in the staff lounge, played a crazy game my roommate Ron calls Loser Pool, and eventually headed for bead. Fun first day, nothing too crazy.

Oh yeah, I got my baggage too. A little worse for wear, as in the morons were kind enough to break the left wheel on this nice new piece of luggage, but at least I can break this 4 day streak of wearing the same clothes.
